ISIS threat in India is growing. Before we discuss that, let me give you a brief background of Syrian Civil War. The Syrian Civil War is an armed conflict taking place in Syria. The unrest grew out of the 2011 Arab Spring protests and escalated to armed conflict after President Bashar al-Assad’s government violently repressed protests calling for his removal. The war is being fought by several factions: the Syrian government and its allies, a loose alliance of Sunni Arab rebel groups (including the Free Syrian Army), the majority-Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Salafi jihadist groups (including al-Nusra Front) who generally cooperate with the rebels, and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) (Also known as ISIS).

It is often stated or depicted by some documentaries that Bashar al-Assad regime is fighting against all the terrorist to protect his land however on the contrary US and allied nation consider that Bashar al-Assad’s army mass killing and torture his citizen, rebel groups. It is apparent Bashar al-Assad consider rebel group, a terrorist organization funded or supported by Saudi Arab, Turkey, and many western countries.

Syrian opposition groups formed the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and seized control of the area surrounding Aleppo and parts of southern Syria. Over time, some factions of the Syrian opposition split from their original moderate position to pursue an Islamist vision for Syria, joining groups such as al-Nusra Front and ISIL. In the north, Syrian government forces largely withdrew to fight the FSA, allowing the Kurdish YPG to move in and proclaim de facto autonomy. In 2015 the YPG joined forces with Arab, Assyrian, Armenian and some Turkmen groups, to form the Syrian Democratic Forces, while most Turkmen groups remained with the FSA. The factions receive substantial support from members of the international community. Russia and Hezbollah militarily engage in support of the government, while beginning in 2014, a coalition of NATO began launching airstrikes against ISIL.

International organizations have accused the Syrian government, ISIL and rebel groups of severe human rights violations and of many massacres. The conflict has caused a refugee crisis. Over the course of the war, a number of peace initiatives have been launched, including the Geneva Syria peace talks led by the United Nations, but fighting continues.

Amidst the chaos, Amnesty International exposes the Syrian government’s calculated campaign of extrajudicial executions by mass hangings at Saydnaya Prison. Between 2011 and 2015, every week and often twice a week, groups of up to 50 people were taken out of their prison cells and hanged to death. In five years, as many as 13,000 people, most of them civilians believed to be opposed to the government, were hanged in secret at Saydnaya. The reported allegation is denied by Bashar al-Assad however he stated “every war cause casualties and that is why every war is a bad war”. He also said that such report can be manipulated and indicated United States influence on such activities. ISIS has built itself stronger in Syria and now it is running a country, having immense funding through their supporting countries, oil business and kidnapping.

India should monitor Syria’s position and situation, with a great focus of how ISIS progress there and what it plans. It can not be denied that ISIS has no plan to extend their scope of activities in India since they have started with their Caliphate campaign, it simply means expansion of their control to maximum States and fueling civil and sectarian war.

ISIS may locally recruit, train and influence terrorist in India through their network of south India (as alleged) and plot strike in India. while for social safety unity and pace is important however government need to take a measure such as appropriate safety in Railway, Roads, and Airports. Accurate screening during custom checking, increase safety to schools, religious places and point of crowds. (where people get together in mass numbers)

Indian need to monitor cyber transaction and interaction to track any criminal activities and in fact, detection and prevention of terrorist activities. Indian Intelligence is superior and highly equipped at a higher level, however, at the foundation level, that actively works at grassroots, needs to be trained, weapon-equipped and educated about terrorist profiles to recognize them efficiently.
